Russian Studies in Real Russia

Summer School 2012 “Russian Studies in Real Russia” seeks to explore trends and processes in the development of contemporary Russia. The school will be held in Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg) on July, 30th – August 18th, 2012.

The course of lectures designed for the summer school draws on multidisciplinary base including cultural studies, political sciences, philosophy, history, arts, literature, sociology and linguistics. The course of lectures starts from exploring historical and cultural roots of current Russian multiethnic diversity. Then lectures traces the most important trends in social, political and economic development of Post-Soviet Russia. Moreover the intensive course of Russian language will contribute to a better understanding of “Real Russia”.

Participation fee is 450 €. The University can provide double rooms in the dormitory (shower, shared kitchen).

Accomodation

Dormitory placement is approximately about 120 €. Dormitory is located in short distance to University at the central part of the city and can be easily reached.

Participants are expected to purchase medical insurance in their home country.

A Brief Description

Studying Russia in Ekaterinburg allows international students to get the understanding of ‘Real Russia’. An old industrial region, a multicultural ‘melting pot’ on the border of Europe and Asia, Ural is pro-viding an excellent practical addition to academic disciplines. The academic program of the Summer School will give students a great chance to get acquainted with the very essence of contemporary and old Russia. We are studying Russia as a part of Europe, while paying a special attention to the interaction of European cultural patterns with the unique factors, such as vast territory or multicultural and multiethnic environment.

The academic program of the International Summer School 2012 “Russian Studies in Real Russia” involves exploring the most important aspects of Russia’s being in the world of today, organised in the following blocks: 'Identity', 'Modernity' and 'Integration'.

Summer School programme offers three different teaching courses depending on the level of know-ledge and practical work. “A general course” is designed for beginners (A1, A2). The following courses has been worked out for students of intermediate and advanced level «Russian language for business protocol and etiquette» and «Peculiarities of today’s Russia speech practices». Practical work in Russian Language is compulsory for all summer school students.

Summer school will give unique opportunity not only to study wide range of issues concerning to modern Russia but also to visit the best places of interest both in Ural region and in Ekaterinburg. Participa-tion in off-class activities will contribute to students’ deeper understanding of Russian culture and will give a chance to practise Russian in academic and informal environment.
